Best bedroom colours for a good night's sleep

It has long been established that 8 hours of sleep a night is ideal to wake up feeling refreshed and raring to go. There are lots of things that can be done to encourage sleep and one of those is to consider how your bedroom is organised, in particular the colour scheme you chose can influence sleep.

According to a survey carried out by Travelodge, blue is the best colour for your bedroom to get a good night’s sleep. The power of the bedroom colour blue can slow your heart rate and even lower your blood pressure! If this wasn’t evidence enough to crack open the blue paint, this study looked at 2,000 British homes and found that people with blue bedrooms were getting on average 7 hours 52 minutes sleep a night. It also revealed that 58% of people with a blue bedroom to sleep in woke up feeling happy.

Travelodge reported that coming in a close second was yellow bedrooms with 7 hours 40 minutes and third was the bedroom colour green with 7 hours 36 minutes of sleep on average per night. It appears these calm colour tones are conducive of a good night’s sleep, but interestingly the colour that on average produced the least sleep was purple. A purple bedroom only produced a night time sleep session of just 5 hours 56 minutes per night.

It seems that colour has an impact not only on your sleep pattern but also on the type of mood you wake up in. So next time you come to re decorate your bedroom consider these findings to make sure you get the best night’s sleep possible.
